Welcome to Van Wert City Schools where our mission is to “continue to be a source of Cougar Pride while providing each student a quality education through innovative instructional methods and technology”! Van Wert City Schools has a K – 12 enrollment of 2,154 students and we are proud to say we have some of the most innovative instructional programs in the state of Ohio. Van Wert City School district has achieved several honors including our Early Childhood Center’s 5-star rating under the Step Up To Quality Standards, our Elementary School’s OAESA Hall of Fame status, our Middle School’s continued success as an Ohio School to Watch since 2005, and our High School’s U.S. News & World Report silver medal.

Some innovative educational opportunities that contributed to Van Wert City Schools achieving these honors include our High School CEO (Career Education Opportunities) program that allows students to obtain positions in many local businesses as interns. Often, these positions make valuable connections that can lead to employment within that business. This program is so successful that the Ohio Department of Education is currently working with our staff, learning how to replicate this program throughout Ohio's schools. We are very proud of our Project Based Learning curriculum model that is implemented district-wide in grades 4 – 12. We are continually expanding on it and hope to have it K – 12 in a few short years. Our Early Childhood Center uses a Play Based Learning method to engage preschool and kindergarten students. Another shining example in our preschool, kindergarten, and elementary grades is our Literacy Collaborative program. This model has already shown incredible promise after our first year of implementation. Teachers are able to meet every child where they are within their individual reading capabilities and show growth as they read engaging books that fit their interests. We are also incredibly pleased to offer 70 + STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) classes throughout our district. We are extremely proud of our robotics teams, as well as our talented students who participate in the areas of art, music, theater, and athletics!

We believe it is vital to educate and care for the whole child as we prepare our students to leave our district and go on into successful post-secondary experiences, whether it be directly into the workforce, a two- or four-year college experience, or the military. This is exemplified by our Vision, which states, “In partnership with our community, Van Wert City Schools will ensure that all students develop the knowledge, skills, and attributes they need to thrive in post-secondary education, careers, and civic life.”

We cordially invite you in to share in educating our children! Please join us at all of our many extra-curricular events. And always, please feel free to contact us with any questions or suggestions you may have regarding our school.
